Balerung Mandera Srinertya Waditra

about Balerung Stage

Balerung Mandera Srinertya Waditra was established as a place for Balinese artists to practice and perform music and dance, particularly the musicians and dancers from the village of Peliatan, with the aim of preserving the classical music and dance of the Peliatan area and further developing Balinese dance and music generally.

Before that, most activities related to the preservation and development of dance and music had been concentrated at Puri Kaleran, Peliatan, where various music and dance groups had been established by the late Anak Agung Gede Mandera for the purpose of preserving and developing the Peliatan style of music and dance.

Over the years, activities related to music and dance increased in Peliatan, and various music and dance groups were formed, beginning with the founding of Sekaa Gong Gunung Sari in 1926. Later other groups were formed, including Tirta Sari (1978), Padma Nara Swara and Mekar Sari (1986), and Genta Bhuana Sari (1992). In fact, even now, many young children of elementary school age are still keen to learn classical Balinese dance and music as well as new creations.

Realizing that a special venue was needed with appropriate facilities to support activities related to this desire to preserve and develop the classical music and dance of Peliatan, Balerung Mandera Srinertya Waditra was established by A. A. Gede Oka Dalem (one of Agung Mandera's sons) on an area of land in Banjar Teruna, Peliatan, not far from Puri Kaleran, in the year 2000.
