Gong Kebyar is a relatively new type of gamelan orchestra. The word kebyar means fast, sudden, and loud, and true to its name, this type of gamelan orchestra produces loud and dynamic music.

In Balerung, the Gong Kebyar gamelan ensemble is usually played by Genta Bhuana Sari and Mekar Sari. In addition, this gamelan orchestra is also sometimes played by young children, particularly those from the village of Peliatan. These children are taught to play the Gong Kebyar orchestra at Balerung in an effort to pass on the musical heritage of the village to the younger generation.
